About Us

The Oromo Evangelical Church of Calgary (OECC) holds weekly Christian worship services at the Church – 3104 34 Ave NW Calgary, Alberta. The OECC initially started as prayer group at one family home in 2001. In 2004 officially registered and used the Foothills Lutheran Church for services. In 2012 joined Lutheran Church - Canada members at Alberta, British Columbia District.
The OECC is the Lutheran based church with unwavering conviction concerning the destiny and duty of the Church, in confidence reliance upon the Holy Spirt by in whom the Church and her entire members are drawn to God and to one another; believing in one holy, universal and apostolic Church of which Jesus Christ is the head. The OECC is the vibrant Church with full commitment to serve the Triune God, to express the unity of faith that exist among her faithful believers/members who are dedicated anew to proclaim through the Word and Sacrament and propagate the gospel of forgiveness through mission as commissioned by our Lord Jesus Christ. The OECC accepts all the canonical Books of the Old and New Testaments as the divinely inspired Word of God and submits to these as the only infallible authority in all matters of faith.
The OECC accepts the three major creeds of the early Church that is the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed as based on the Holy Scripture; all the symbolical books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church contained in Books of Concord, Unaltered Augsburg Confession and Small and Large Catechisms as to be true and genuine exposition and declaration of the Word of God.
 In relation to human sexuality, the OECC believes, declares and reaffirms throughout her public teaching of the Church that marriage is the union of one man and one woman as God has created (Gn.1:27-28; 2:18-25; Mt. 19: 4-6); that the Church refrain from sexual immorality and all forms of homosexual activity (same sex marriage) along with other practices deemed inexcusable for Christian conduct and that place a person under God’s wrath and judgement. (1. Cor. 6:15-18; 7:12: Rom. 1: 26-27, NIV).
The OECC is the non-profit making legally charitable Church that carried on her ministry without purpose of gaining any profit for herself as well as for her members. The Church shall use all her property for the objectives described in her constitution.
The Church provide ministry in area worship service, preaching and teaching of the gospel, Bible study, prayer service, visiting members and discussion and encouragement to help her believers/members deep rooted and grow in their faith, day to day lives and in their various roles they have in the society as a responsible citizen.  

THE CHURCH STRUCTURE

Oromo Evangelical Church of Calgary (OECC) is structurally organized where the congregation is the final decision maker, where as the Church Elders, who are elected by the congregation every two years, are in charge of OECC'S administration. The spiritual activities of the church are undertaken by pastoral office under the supervision of Elders which has three departments: In house ministry, Outreach Ministry and Community service ministry.

Purpose

The purpose of the OECC is to reach all people of different nationalities with Good News of Jesus Christ; with especial focus on the Oromo immigrants.

Vision

The OECC vision is to have saving, caring, healing, just and prosperous Church that accomplishes the great commission of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Mission

To be gospel vibrant, enthusiastic and passionate Church to demonstrate the love of God among the people in the glob through proclaiming the Good New of Jesus Christ with the motto of serving the whole person to address both spiritual and physical needs of a person in the mission of accomplishing the great commission to which the Church is fully commissioned.
